While this article is generally correct, considerable journalistic license was taken with the quotes attributed to me. – Dale
Life’s no drag for teacher who dresses like a woman
College teacher Dale Miller doesn’t quite make the grade as a manly dresser. Along with his suit jacket and tie he wears a miniskirt, hose and heels! “I’m not the tiniest bit gay — I’m just a red-blooded American guy who loves going out in public in attractive women’s clothing,” said Dale, who’s worn his eye-popping ensembles on dates and to work at the University of Arkansas.”I hear comments and guffaws about my outfits everywhere I go, especially when I’m with my girlfriend!
“Every now and then I get derogatory remarks — workmen sometimes yell ‘faggot’ at me.
“But I also get compliments. Women say: ‘You’ve got nice legs!’”
Dale, 37, is the university’s manager of technical services and he also teaches a computer class.
He was married for 16 years — but his marriage fell apart like a cheap bra when he started crossdressing.
“For years I’d fantasized about wearing women’s clothing,” he explained.
“Where is it chipped into granite that we must all dress a certain way. Why not be comfortable? What’s wrong with a guy wearing a skirt?
“At the beginning of this year I finally got up the courage to dress the way I wanted. My wife thought I’d gone bananas. She said: ‘Dale, what the heck are you doing?’
“She filed for divorce. It was finalized in July. That same month I started wearing my skirts to work.
“At first, there was no problem. The students are broadminded and respected my right to wear what I wished.
“Then on October 17 a local newspaper ran a story, along with my picture, titled ‘When a Man Loves a Woman – Or at Least Her Clothes.’” That’s when the skirt hit the fan, revealed Cindy Lawson, the university’s executive director of communications.
“Our chancellor received several phone calls from alumni and financial contributors who were upset about Mr. Miller’s dress,” said Cindy.
“So the chancellor had a talk with Dale and told him he’d appreciate it if he wouldn’t wear skirts and feminine clothes to work. Dale agreed.”
Said Dale, who’s 5-foot-7 and weighs 195 pounds: “I love the university and the last thing I want to do is cause a disruption.
“But I still wear my skirts when I go to the lumber yard or hardware store, or for a game of pool at a neighborhood bar.
“I now have 20 skirts and a dozen pairs of high heels.
“I wear size 11 double-wide shoes, so I have to get them by mail order.
“My girlfriend and I go out twice a week.
“On our last date we went to a restaurant. She wore jeans and a T-shirt. I wore a black pullover and a charcoal skirt with high heels.
“Sure, we get looks, – but I don’t let people initimidate me.
“I hope to be able to wear my skirts and high heels back to work at the university someday, when it becomes accepted.
“It’s a wonderful, fun life in high heels and skirts!”
