There is a Flickr group called “365 Days”. The idea is to take one self-portrait a day for a full year. I joined and have enjoyed trying to find new ways to picture myself.
Somewhere along the line I became interested in using songs as themes for some photos, so many of the titles reflect that.
Here is what I have so far:
Day 001 - Simple (2009-06-11) | I have decided to try to take a year's worth of self-portraits. I thought about trying for something awesome for the first one, but then decided that would set unreasonable expectations. Therefore, the first photo is bland. I should be able to top this. |
Day 002 - Jumping in the pool (2009-06-12) | This was supposed to be an easy idea -- in the air over the pool. In practice it didn't work out that well. I put the remote in a Ziplock bag to keep it dry, and that limited the range and angle. I finally managed a few shots and this was the best of the lot. |
Day 003 - Legs (2009-06-13) | Another shot beside the pool. I'm not going to make a habit of this. |
Day 004 - In the mirror (2009-06-14) | Using a mirror is one of the standard self-portraits. I have trouble with them because I'm never sure where I'm pointing the camera. The only way I pulled this one off was by using the tripod.Yes,the pool is still in the background. |
Day 005 - Eye (2009-06-15) | using a Vivitar close-up filter with a 50mm lens. I particularly like the reflection of my hand and camera (you may have to view it larger to see). |
Day 006 - Looking up, from below (2009-06-16) | Things may or may not be looking up, but Dale is. |
Day 007 - Looking up, from above (2009-06-17) | Dale is again looking up, but this time the camera is looking down. |
Day 008 - Nude with kickball (2009-06-18) | This is my first obviously nude shot for the "365 days" group. I've actually only worn clothing for three of the eight, but you couldn't tell before. |
Day 009 - Underwater (2009-06-19) | Instead of beside the pool, this one is in the pool.This is my first try at an underwater self-portrait, but I'm sure it won't be my last.I'm fairly pleased with the way this turned out, although I would prefer more light on my face. |
Day 010 - Handstand (2009-06-20) | Upside down today.The lighting is horrible in this, but I didn't have the strength to reposition the flash and try again. It took too many tries to get this shot. |
