Addictions

I did something Friday night that I well come to regret — I signed up for Netflix. A few years ago that wouldn’t have been so bad — a few movies now and then, but not something that had the potential to take over my life. These days it’s different, though. the whole “watch instantly” concept is what has me hooked. Since Friday I have watched “Enchanted”, “Bridge to Terebithia”, “Spy School”, and the first 1-1/2 seasons of Dr. Who. I’ve also started “Charm school”, but got tired of reading subtitles. It has potential, so I suspect I’ll finish it soon. Now I want a Roku so I can take my computer back upstairs instead of having it hooked to the television.

On a completely unrelated note, I have found an alcoholic product that I enjoy straight. Naturally it would have to be something fairly expensive — Chambord Liqueur. I doubt I’ll drink it often, but it’s very good.

Changing subjects again, UALR classes started today. Work was not as hectic as I usually expect for the first day of the term, but there were certainly things that had to be fixed. I’m taking Modern Dance this term with a slightly unconventional teacher. It has the potential to be quite interesting.

Black tie

I received a wedding invitation in the mail a few days ago. This is rare for me. During my life I have attended several dozen weddings, but very rarely as a guest. I have been a ringbearer, groom, groomsman, minister, audio engineer, lighting technician, television camera operator, television switcher operator, videographer, and photographer, but seldom have I gotten to simply sit and watch.

There is a note at the bottom of this invitation that states “black tie optional”. My understanding is that this means if one has a tuxedo, one should wear it. If one doesn’t have a tuxedo, a black suit is required. In no case should it be more casual than that, and white tie and tails is not overdoing it. This gives me a good excuse to wear my tuxedo to something other than a choir concert, but I wonder how many other guests will actually be in tuxes. I was hoping to convince Emilie to break out an evening gown and go with me, but she’s going to be back in Australia before then. Anyone want to go to a wedding with me on January 31st?

I think it counts as a good start for a year that I haven’t put on clothes for the first two days. We shall see what the weekend brings.
