In a conversation with Jack yesterday, the subject of Sufficient Grounds Coffee House (now the Laughing Moon Cafe) came up. I realized I hadn’t been there in a while, and would appreciate an evening spent sitting, reading a book, and watching the world go by. The only problem was, I didn’t have a book with me. So after work I headed out to Barnes and Noble in west Little Rock, spent too much money on books, and went back east to the Laughing Moon. Upon arriving I found that it had closed its doors and had a “for sale” sign in front. Well, that was annoying. I had wasted a drive across Little Rock. I ended up getting dinner at Carino’s, which was fine, but not as satisfying an experience. I hope someone buys the cafe, re-opens it, and has a booming business.

I went to see Les Miserables at the Rep last night. I have known of the musical for years, but really knew nothing about it. I was blown away. The story was intense, if rather sad, and the performance was wonderful. I knew several of the cast members, mostly from the UALR community chorus, and that always makes a performance feel a bit more personal. I had never been to the Rep before, and I mourn the lost chances. The theater is more intimate than I had expected. I had a fourth-row seat, and that put me in a wonderful position to enjoy the show. It was a very nice way to spend a Friday night, and well worth the price of the ticket.

I stayed home from work today, both as a method of using up vacation days so I don’t lose them, and to have people show up at my house. I had scheduled for a new propane grill to be delivered, and for a man from Farrellgas to come and add two more taps to my propane tank so I could use it without having to pay to have those little tanks refilled. That seems rather silly when I have a 500-gallon tank sitting in my backyard. The grill arrived on time, and wasn’t too difficult to assemble. I rather snickered at the section which said I needed two people for the next step. I have learned to do many things that really aren’t designed for one person. Unfortunately, the gentleman from Farrellgas had to cancel, so that may have to be done next week.
I spent the rest of my day relaxing. I floated in the pool, watched movies, sat on the deck and enjoyed the lovely weather, and snuggled the kitties. It was, all-in-all, a perfectly pleasant day. I could use more like that.
